da winzada777: Leighton Baines may be 34 years of age, but Marco Silva could salvage the Everton star’s faltering career with a shock position change to midfield.
The left-back is unlikely to feature for the Toffees in his natural position anytime soon, with Lucas Digne starring in the role and making someone who used to be the first name on the teamsheet nothing more than his back-up.
In midfield, however, Silva faces a dilemma as Idrissa Gueye has been lacking form in recent games, and was heavily found out in his side’s 2-2 draw at home to Watford.
Former Wigan & Fulham man, Jimmy Bullard recently showed that he’s still got it! Check out the video below...
The Senegalese star was then ruled out of Everton’s trip to Manchester City, forcing his coach to adapt his plans for a one-off game – opting for three centre-backs behind creative duo Andre Gomes and Gylfi Sigurdsson.
Unfortunately, a central pairing of two forward-thinking midfielders did not pay dividends away to the reigning Premier League titleholders.
To avoid a repeat of the sub-optimal team selection, Baines featuring as the defensive midfielder would make sense. The left-footed set-piece master has a great passing range, is a superb tackler and can act as the deep-lying midfielder operating alongside Gomes in front of two solid defenders.
Using someone of Baines’ experience in midfield would ensure Silva can return to his favoured 4-2-3-1 system that he has utilised for 14 of his side’s 17 league games.
