da dobrowin: Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has told the Daily Record that contract negotiations with Charlie Mulgrew have stalled and that no progress has been made.
da marjack bet: The 30-year-old’s contract has expired and has not started pre-season training with the rest of the Celtic squad, but Rodgers is still keen on keeping the player.
He said: “There is no progress that I am aware of.
“He is a player I have spoken to and a player we would like to keep, of course. But that depends on how contract talks go.
“We had a really good conversation and I’ve always liked Charlie, watching him from afar. Good balance, looked a good professional, a Celtic fan from what I hear, so the club means a lot to him.”
The Hoops boss has been understanding as to why the negotiations are taking so long to be concluded.
At 30 years of age, Rodgers appreciates the new contract may be Mulgrew’s last of his career, and therefore the finances need to be right before he signs on the dotted line.
“I think everyone respects as well that he is at a stage of his career where it could well be his last contract,” Rodgers added.
“I always respect that with older players at 29 or 30 years of age. This is arguably the most important contract of their life, so they have to take their time to assess that and look at that.
“But I am sure his agent is talking with the club.”
Rodgers may be looking for a replacement for Mulgrew if the Celtic defender doesn’t sign a new deal to stay at Celtic Park, with two Liverpool players, Andre Wisdom and Joe Gomez, linked with moves North of the border.
It is believed that the Reds are unwilling to allow Gomez to leave, even on loan, but they are prepared to listen to offers for Wisdom, with a £3million fee being proposed.
