da marjack bet: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is no stranger to criticism, and he sparked even more when he claimed that West Ham United played as if they were already on holiday when they lost to Liverpool on Sunday.
da imperador bet: Wenger needed his East London rivals to do Arsenal a favour in order to boost their chances of securing a Champions League spot.
The Gunners were just one point adrift of Liverpool heading into Sunday, knowing that a defeat for the Reds would put the North London outfit in a strong position to finish in the top four, particularly as they have a game in hand.
The Hammers have not had the best season, but their 1-0 win over then-Premier League title contenders Tottenham Hotspur almost a fortnight ago made them more of a threat against the Reds.
However, Wenger’s hopes were dashed when Liverpool earned a comfortable 4-0 win.
As it stands, Arsenal can still overtake the Reds, but it is out of their hands because if Jurgen Klopp’s men beat Middlesbrough at Anfield on the final day of the season, a Champions League spot goes to Merseyside.
While facing the media in a press conference today, Wenger seemed to aim a subtle dig at West Ham for their performance. He told reporters:
“Some teams turn up, some teams are on holiday. You just want your team to play well. To be professional is to do your job well until the last day of the season.
“To look into the mirror and say you did it properly is vital. If we don’t have the results I am disappointed but what is not excusable is to not give your best.”
Wenger’s comments have angered football fans from various clubs, including Liverpool, Chelsea and his own Arsenal supporters.
A handful referred to the Gunners’ recent 4-1 win over Stoke City, suggesting that the Potters were also complacent.
