da bet sport: Former Arsenal player Perry Groves has claimed that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger would be in the firing line if he was having a similar summer to his Tottenham Hotspur rival Mauricio Pochettino.
da brdice: Spurs are the only club out of last season’s top seven that have not brought in any new signings to improve the squad.
Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Everton have all splashed the cash as they prepare for the new Premier League season.
Tottenham, though, have been very quiet in the market, and the only activity so far is selling Kyle Walker to Manchester City.
Groves believes that if the shoe was on the other foot, Wenger would get highly criticised by the press and the fans, particularly if he guided Arsenal to second place like Pochettino did with Tottenham last season.
The former Gunners man told bwin:
“If it was Arsene Wenger finishing second last season and then not signing anyone, he would be getting slated by the fans and media. Everyone loves Pochettino because, quite rightly, he’s done really well but if it was Arsene in that position, he’d be slaughtered.”
Wenger has been criticised in the past for keeping the purse strings tight in the transfer window, but this summer he smashed the club record.
Alexandre Lacazette’s arrival from Lyon cost Arsenal £52m, according to The Guardian, but he and Saed Kolasinac are the only players to come through the Emirates welcome gates so far this summer.
