da doce: Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has talked up a potential strike partnership between Christian Benteke and Daniel Sturridge.
da bwin: The Belgium international has signed from Aston Villa for a whopping £32.5 million over the summer and has scored twice for the Reds this season.
Sturridge has been on the sidelines due to continued injury concerns, but is nearing a return to action and could well play a part in the Anfield outfit’s clash with Norwich this weekend.
Rodgers has been full of praise for the pair after watching them work well together on the training pitch.
“I have been very impressed with how they have played,” The Guardian quote Rodgers as saying about Sturridge and Benteke in training.
“They have power, pace and different ways to score goals. When you have that quality in your team it sparks off the rest of the players.
“Daniel has been very positive in training. He has come back with a real hunger to succeed, which is great. He’s looked really powerful and fast – his quality is there for all to see.
“Some of the staff who have come in this summer and heard me talk about him before seeing him training have seen it in the first session. He looks a different level of player and, when you have that available and strong, it can take your game to a new dimension.”
Liverpool have lost their last two games against West Ham and Manchester United, with the former Swansea boss under pressure to get the team’s season back on track against the newly promoted Canaries.
It will be interesting in the long run whether Rodgers opts for both Benteke and Sturridge in attack, which would mean a switch in formation from the bespoke 4-3-3 system the Northern Irishman has been employing this term.
