da dobrowin: Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has admitted that he was shocked that Jose Mourinho managed to bring Nemanja Matic to Old Trafford in this summer’s transfer window.
da bet7k: Experienced midfielder Matic joined Man United from Chelsea at the end of last month, signing a three-year contract with the 20-time English champions.
The 29-year-old made his competitive debut for the Red Devils in Tuesday night’s UEFA Super Cup against Real Madrid, and despite impressing, could not prevent his new team from suffering a 2-1 defeat.
Matic’s Chelsea departure came as a surprise to many after his impressive form last season, and Scholes has questioned why the Blues would be prepared to sell a key player to one of their title rivals.
Scholes told BT Sport:
“I really like the Matic signing. That was the one that surprised me a little bit. It made you wonder why did Chelsea sell him? I think he brings aggression to United’s midfield which is something I think they have been lacking.
“I think he’s very similar in a way to Michael Carrick in a controlling midfielder but what he brings and what Michael doesn’t bring is a little bit of aggression which, when he gets to the ball, he tackles, he allows other people to play.”
Matic could make his Premier League debut for Man United in Sunday’s clash with West Ham United at Old Trafford. The Serbian has helped Chelsea to two league titles in the last three seasons.
