da dobrowin: According to West Ham insider, ExWHUemployee, the Hammers may consider a move for Liverpool’s Divock Origi although it will “depend on players leaving” – could that mean any move for the Belgian would indicate Marko Arnautovic’s time at the London Stadium is up?
What’s the word?
Well, Ex understands that the Irons could swoop for Origi, permitting that there are outgoings to open up room for the former in Manuel Pellegrini’s plans.
Origi is pretty far down the pecking order at Anfield and has been unable to show improvements after a fairly average loan spell at Wolfsburg last season although, after the exit of Dominic Solanke, any approaches to prise the versatile forward away from Merseyside would surely require quite some fee – the Reds won’t want to lose two squad strikers in one window without a big sum in return.
Meanwhile, the Hammers already have a plethora of striking options on the books but, with Pellegrini far from convincing when discussing the future of Marko Arnautovic, could a move for Origi be terminal for the Austrian’s West Ham career?
Arnie on the way out?
Arnautovic’s unprecedented rise to to becoming a Hammers talisman has even put him on the radar of Manchester United, who were reportedly keen on a move for the 29-year-old.
Pellegrini’s uncertainty over his star man’s future suggests that, should yet another hitman be brought in – the Chilean already has Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez, Andy Carroll, Lucas Perez and not least of which Arnautovic at his disposal – the east London outfit are preparing for life without the big striker.
Should this indeed be the case, Origi could make the step up – the right-footer has contributed to a goal in each of his two Premier League appearances this season, one of which was an injury time header to sink bitter rivals Everton that surely made him a cult hero amongst the Kop.
Formerly a powerful winger, the 6-foot-4 Arnautovic has been converted to a striker and is using his frame and surprising skill to his advantage as he bags seven league goals.
Similarly, Origi is a forward capable of playing all across the front line and, while ‘Arnie’ is nearing his thirties, is only 23 – he could become quite the player in years to come given regular minutes.
What do you think, West Ham fans? Do you think Origi would be a good replacement for Arnautovic should the Austrian depart? Let us know by voting in the poll below…
